Erica Torkelson Flaherty knew she wanted to be an accountant since she was in high school. She loves languages, speaking Spanish and some French. But she loves that numbers are a universal language that most of the world is fluent in. This is what initially piqued her interest in accounting.
Erica enjoys helping others, especially helping them understand accounting. With how essential accounting is to businesses, she knows proper accounting is a tool for success. After majoring in Accounting at the University of Wisconsin – Superior, she started out in industry accounting in 2008. Then made the move to public accounting in 2012, which has given her tax, audit, and consulting experience.
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, like many other people, Erica found herself thinking about her goals and what was important to her. This led her to start her own accounting service. Her business, The Accountant House, allows her to focus on giving her clients more personal service. She runs the business with her husband, Craig.
When she’s not balancing debits and credits, Erica can be found on the golf course. She can also be seen out on her motorcycle. She shares this passion for the open road with her whole family, as her husband, father, and sister all ride. Family and friends are the most important thing to Erica. She, Craig, and their dog Cash welcomed a new member of the family in January 2021, her daughter Tillie. Since then, Tillie’s smiles and laughter have brightened The Accountant House and brought Erica joy.
